Go get that book!

Found a book you want in the library, and there are copies on the shelf? Don’t reserve it - and here's why.

Found a book you want in the library, and there are copies on the shelf? Don’t reserve it - and here's why

Blue label books - University High Demand - can be loaned for two weeks.  They can't be reserved if they are on the shelf.  You can only reserve these when all copies are out on loan.

However, books with no labels can be borrowed for three weeks.  They are shown as ANF Paperback on Library Search.  These can be reserved even if they are available on the shelf. This is so that books from across the Worcestershire public library network can be requested by library users and sent to a library of their choice to collect. We don’t do this for blue label loans as they are usually required by University students, and we don’t want to keep them out of circulation too long.

What does this mean for you?

Well, perhaps you’ve put a reservation on a book, and are wondering why you hadn’t been emailed to say that it is available yet. Then you’ve spotted that Library Search says copies are available on the shelf, and you are thinking, ‘why haven’t I got one of those?!’ The answer is that you’ve probably put a reservation on the three week loan copy,  and so you are missing out on the available two week blue label copies.

One example we’ve spotted this week is a Critical Companion to Early Childhood by Reed and Walker. Two students have reserved the three week loan copy, despite several two week loan copies sitting on the shelf waiting to be read.
