Find your space

Where will you study?

Where will you study?

When you’re trying to get stuck into study, it is important to find a spot that suits you.

Do you like silence or does a background buzz work best for you? Will you be working alone or with a group of friends? What about keeping refreshed, do you want somewhere you can grab a drink and a snack? These are all questions to consider when picking your perfect study space.

With five floors and a wide variety of spaces, The Hive has a somewhere to suit everyone.

Level 0

Level 0 is shared study space with PCs, larger tables for group study, shared screens for presentation work and printing, photocopying and scanning facilities.

There are also comfortable chairs and gaming stations if you fancy a break.

As a social space, chatting and mobile phone use are allowed. Hot and cold drinks and cold food are permitted on this level.

Level 1

Level 1 is home to the Hive Café where you can buy hot and cold food. There are also a range of tables, comfortable chairs and bank seating where you can work if you prefer a busier environment.

Meeting rooms 1-6 are on this level and can be used by students if they are not booked. The Business Centre also provides comfortable seating and a quiet space to work.

Printing and photocopying are available on this level.

Quiet chat and considerate phone use are allowed and hot and cold drinks and cold food are permitted on this level.

Level 3

Level 3 is home to the main University collection and where you will find most of your books.

There are plenty of PCs on this level and a range of larger and smaller tables for you to work alone or with friends. Comfortable chairs, coffee tables and sofas are dotted throughout the space.

Power towers and laptop tables make it easy to work on your own devices and, don’t forget, there’s no need to log onto a PC to print, simply upload your documents to webprint and collect from The Hive printers using your student card.

Printing, scanning and photocopying are available on this level.

Meeting rooms 7 and 8 are on this level and can be used by students if they are not booked.

Level 3 is a quiet study area but low-level chat and considerate phone use are allowed. Hot and cold drinks and cold food are permitted on this level and there are vending machines if you fancy a snack.

Level 4

Level 4 is a silent study area with PCs, bank seating and comfortable chairs for individual study.

Level 4 can be accessed via a staircase to the left of the lifts on level 3 or the right hand lift.

Talking, phone use and eating are not permitted on this level.

What about during assessment periods?

We know that assessment periods can be stressful and that, sometimes, it can feel like the entire University population has descended on The Hive to read, write, reference and the rest.

That’s why during busy assessment periods we create additional spaces for group, quiet and silent study. Keep an eye on Library Services social media to find out more @uwlibservices.
