New library catalogue

What does it mean for you?

What does it mean for you?

We will have a new Library Catalogue from Thursday 18th July. That means the web pages that tell you where the books are will look a whole lot smarter. There are some great new features, but will cause a bit of downtime and a couple of interruptions of service.

In a nutshell

But we’ll all get a much better, easier to use catalogue. Hurrah.

Searching for books

The Books and other media search will be unavailable 15th – 18th July while we get the new system in place.

Our General and Ebooks searches will not return results from the Library catalogue from 15th July for a further two to three weeks while we refresh the data.

Resource lists

UPDATE: you can now edit your lists as usual. Please do not edit/update your Resource Lists from Monday 15th July onwards until all the changes are successfully completed. We’ll be working to make everything in your resource list link to the new catalogue. You’ll be able to view published resource lists but please don’t tinker behind the scenes until we let you know it’s OK. Links added during downtime might not add properly and we’d hate you to waste your time.

Accessing items from other libraries

We will be unable to process any new inter library requests between Wednesday 10th July to Sunday 21st July inclusive. The service may remain at risk after this date.

Items which have previously been requested or are currently on loan will be unaffected, although requests may take a little longer than usual to process. If you have any queries, please contact

We will also be unable to process any new SCONUL Access applications between Saturday 13th to Wednesday 17th July inclusive. Normal service will resume on Thursday 18th July.

Changes to renewals

From 18th July you will be able to renew books up to 9 times as long as they have not been reserved by someone else. This means you could potentially have a University High Demand (blue sticker) book for 18 weeks, a University Universal Loan or public library book (no stickers) for 27 weeks. All renewal totals with be set at zero from 18th July, giving everyone a clean slate.

Renewals can be made via your library account or in person at The Hive. You will be sent an email reminder two days before your items are due back. Please remember it is your responsibility to return or renew books on time. Auto-renewals for University Staff will be temporarily suspended.

This excludes University Short Loan (orange sticker) books which cannot be renewed.

Anything else?

Nobody likes disruption but we think it’ll definitely be worth it. We’ll have great new features, and the old features we know you use.

Any questions?
