2020 Copying for personal use

You can make one copy of copyright material for your own personal, non-commercial research or study. This applies to online and printed materials.

If you are unsure if the material you want to copy has copyright please contact your Academic Liaison Librarian.

There are limits on the amount that you can copy.

 

Books 

A single chapter or extract, or, more than one abstract from a book. The total copied must not exceed 10% of that book.

 

Journals

One article from any journal issue.

 

Conference proceedings

One paper from any proceeding.

 

Poems and short stories from anthologies

Up to 10 pages of a single poem or short story.

 

Drawings, charts, photographs and other illustrations

You can copy images when they are part of a literary work such as a journal article but you cannot alter the images. You must follow any separate terms and conditions described in books and journals.

Artistic works are protected and you will need separate permissions to copy them.
