2023 What is Library Search?

Content

Library Search is the University of Worcester’s search engine for our collections and subscriptions. You will find Library Search in the centre of the Library Services home page.

Library Search includes books, ebooks, book chapters, journals and journal articles, and magazine and newspaper articles. After your module resource list, Library Search is a great starting point for discovering your own reading materials.

Understanding how Library Search works is important for creating an effective search and finding relevant sources.

Most of our resources can be searched simultaneously using the General tab although there are some exceptions. You should refer to your Subject Guide for recommended resources, databases and websites from your Academic Liaison Librarians, as these guides will include links to relevant resources which you won’t find through Library Search.

What does each tab do?

Library Search image

General

Search across our book, ebook, and article collections using keywords for your research topic or assignment. You can apply filters within Library Search, including type of content, discipline and publication date.

Articles

Search for articles from thousands of academic journals using keywords and phrases relevant to your research or assignment topic.

Books and Media

Search the library catalogue for books and other materials held in The Hive and Worcestershire Libraries. Once in the library catalogue you will be able to log in to your library account, renew and reserve library items, and make inter-library requests.

Ebooks

Search across our ebook collections, including titles from VLEbooks and ProQuest Ebook Central.

Journals A-Z

Explore journal titles in Browzine, a more visual way to explore journals in your subject area or discipline. Here you can find out where you can access a journal and the publication years covered. You can create your own collection or bookshelf of journals in Browzine, and receive email alerts when new issues are published. Set up your personal account to get started. A Browzine app for smartphones and tablets is also available.

Databases A-Z

Find specific research databases or collections using Databases A-Z. Just ask your Academic Liaison Librarians for recommended resources for your subject – see your subject guide for more details.

Advanced search

Underneath the search box an Advanced Search link is available, in which you can build up your search and apply filters before viewing the results.
