Appointments Charter
Library Services provides an Academic Liaison Librarian service to help staff and students use the library and information resources effectively. Appointments can be made with the appropriate Academic Liaison Librarian and the services available are outlined in the appointments charter (pdf).

Open access publishing
Researchers must:

  • deposit in WRaP the final, refereed and corrected, accepted versions of their peer-reviewed journal articles and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. 
  • deposit in WRaP no later than three months after acceptance for publication. 

This will ensure that you comply with the 2014 HEFCE mandate and that your research can be submitted to the post-2014 REF.

Researchers should also:

  • deposit other kinds of research, e.g. book chapters, reports, working papers, images, videos, etc.
  • add back catalogue to WRaP so there is a comprehensive record of the University’s research activity.

This will maximise the reach, availability and impact of your research.

Reading resources
Since the adoption of Resource Lists (Talis Aspire) in 2014/15, the Reading Resources strategy was replaced by a set of guidelines, ratified by LTSEC (June 2016), on how access to reading resources should be managed.

 

Requesting new items
Staff: to request purchase of books, journals or databases, see requesting new items or download the full policy (pdf).

Students should use our book suggestion scheme form. We do not guarantee to purchase every suggestion made.

 

Service standards
Library Services is committed to providing a high quality library service to staff and students along with excellent facilities and resources. We have defined service standards that we use to ensure we achieve this level of support.

Library Services strategy
Our mission is to provide excellent library services, facilities, resources and training and advice to all members of the University on and off campus, as well as members of the community who use The Hive.

Our vision is to build on our unique and outward facing service, so that we are highly valued by our University students and staff and community users; and regarded as providing vibrant leadership in areas of best practice in the library sector.

Research Services strategy
Library Services works with the research community to:

  • identify and prioritise information resources to support existing and future research areas
  • provide research skills support for all researchers
  • provide information on scholarly communications, including Intellectual Property Rights and Open Access
  • provide a robust system to store and showcase the University’s research output
  • promote collections and facilities to wider research community, including partners and independent researchers
