One of our work placement students, Matthew Cheese, has some advice on making the most of online lectures.

Online lectures can mean you get distracted and don't make the most of your time. Online lectures remain as vital as in-person ones and you must try to use them to their full advantage.

Make notes. Online lectures are no different to in-person ones. You must make notes in order to keep important information said in the lecture.

Write what the lecturer is saying, not what is on the slides, they will be uploaded to blackboard later.

Limit distractions. When at home it is easier to get distracted. To lessen the chances of this happening, make sure you are in a comfortable, quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Ensure you have everything you'll need during your lecture at the start, so you don't need to leave. You may be tempted to listen to music during your lecture, avoid this as it can cause you to mishear or miss information being said.

Comfort. Make sure you are comfortable. Make any drinks and go to the bathroom in breaks and before the lecture starts.

And once you are sitting comfortably:

Join in. You'll learn much better if you take part in the chat, do the activities, switch on your mic and ask a question.

Try to make the best of the situation and ensure that you make the most of your time at University.
