The Hive presents Kit de Waal, hosted by BBC radio presenter Nina Das Gupta

We are very excited to say that The Hive will be hosting an evening with award winning author of ‘My Name is Leon’ – Kit de Waal, on Tuesday 4 October at 7:30.  

Recently serialised on BBC Radio 4, Kit will be discussing her new memoir ‘Only Sometimes and Without Warning’ a book that explores her experience of growing up in a mixed heritage household in Birmingham during the 1960s, and how her upbringing has had an impact on her writing. Kit will also be signing copies of her book which will be available to purchase on the night or can be bought as part of a full price ticket.

About Kit de Waal

Kit de Waal is the author of the novels ‘My Name is Leon’, which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award and won the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year. Her work ‘The Trick to Time’ was longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction. She is editor of the ‘Common People Anthology’, and co-founder of the Big Book Weekend festival. ‘My Name is Leon’ tells the story of a child struggling to find his place in the world as he enters the foster care system and was recently adapted as a one-hour film for BBC1. University of Worcester students and staff can watch the BBC adaptation of 'My Name is Leon' and the serialisation of Kit's memoir 'Only Sometimes and Without Warning' on Box of Broadcasts (UW log in required)
