Books and borrowing from The Hive

Your college provides key texts for your course.

Borrowing items

You can also borrow books from The Hive or any Worcestershire branch library.   Register online to request your student library card for The Hive. To check which books we hold in The Hive and other libraries in the county please use The Hive Library catalogue.

Item type How many can I borrow? How long can I borrow them for? Maximum number of auto-renewals
University High Demand (blue label) 12 2 weeks 9
Other items (no label) 12 3 weeks 9
University AV (green label) 3 3 weeks 9

When you bring your items back, keep your receipt as proof of return.

Renewing your loans

We encourage you to bring your items back as soon as you’re finished with them. Log in to your library account to see what you have borrowed, and its current due date. We’ll automatically renew items on your account up to nine times, providing they are not reserved by another borrower. We’ll email you to confirm whether your items have been auto-renewed. Check your university email regularly to keep up to date.

If another borrower has reserved an item on your account or we have already renewed it nine times you will need return it.

It is your responsibility to return your items on time.

Worcestershire County Council chargeable items (AV) are not included in auto-renewals and must be renewed and paid for separately.

Reserving items

If the item you want is on loan or at another branch library, you can reserve it via your library account. You can reserve up to five items at a time. You can choose to collect your reserved item from any Worcestershire branch library.

We’ll email you when your reservation is ready. If you selected The Hive as your pickup location, collect your item from the reservation shelf on level 1. It will be shelved in alphabetical order by your surname.

Item type Where can I collect my reservation from? How long will I have to collect my reservation? Where can I return it?
University High Demand (blue label) Any Worcestershire branch library 7 days Any Worcestershire branch library
Other items (no label) Any Worcestershire branch library 14 days Any Worcestershire branch library
University AV (green sticker) Any Worcestershire branch library 14 days Any Worcestershire branch library

Replacement charges

If your item is 30 days overdue, a ‘late charge’ of £12 will block you from borrowing or renewing other items. You will need to return the item, or supply a good quality, identical replacement copy of the item to have the charge removed. If an item is not returned after 45 days the charge rises to £30, and the debt will be passed to UW Finance.

You can pay charges in The Hive or any Worcestershire branch library using the self-service machines to pay by cash or debit/credit card. There is a minimum payment of £1 by card.

Get in touch with us at libraryaccounts@worc.ac.uk as soon as possible if you have lost a University of Worcester item, if you have an issue with charges, or if you think an item on your account is incorrect.
